How to Clean a Showerhead

The bathroom is certainly on every one’s weekly cleaning to-do list. The holes in your shower head are probably clogged with hard water minerals and soap residue if the water from your shower head is spraying out in all directions or if the flow has become nearly nonexistent. Here are some cleaning recommendations before you contact a professional plumbing service provider to fix it for you.

Using a sponge and baking soda, scrub the nozzles.

Scrub as much dried dirt from the holes as possible using a scrubber sponge, then follow up with a baking soda and water mixture. The abrasive nature of baking soda makes it easier to remove material from the surface of your shower head. Scrub your shower head with the paste, then turn on the hot water to wash the paste away before moving on to the next step.

Try soaking it in a vinegar solution.

If the spray is still not straight, combine equal parts white vinegar and water in a plastic bag about 1/2 cup of each should be enough. Secure the plastic bag to the shower head shaft with a twist knot or rubber band so that the holes are submerged in the liquid. Allow at least 15 to 20 minutes or up to an hour if you can for it to soak.

Finish by running hot water through the shower head.

Remove the bag and wipe away any sediments that have become loose. Run a hot shower to flush out any remaining hard water minerals in the shower head holes, and you’re good to go!
